This is our original nursery, and was opened in September 1995. Over the years, we have expanded the building to enable us to accommodate children from 6 weeks to 11 years. Each age group has their own room, with highly qualified and experienced staff, many who have been with us for a long time. The “house” consists of the baby area, with separate dining areas for all, and a separate sleeping room for the older babies. The additions to the building are a purpose built toddler and preschool rooms. The rooms are set out as follows:
The baby area consists of two play/sleeping rooms and a dining room. We aim to provide a very homely area for the babies, including full size cots for sleeping. Our highly qualified staff care for the children in a warm, loving and professional manner, with lots of cuddles!
When a baby finds their feet, they move upstairs to our crawler room. Here, they learn to become a little more independent; feeding themselves, sitting at a table to eat etc. The children are taught good table manners and social skills when eating. They have a large room to run around in, a dining and activity room, plus a separate sleeping area.
Now your child is ready for a more structured environment, with more group activities. This is the room where potty training will start, entirely at your child’s pace. The children will start to learn self care, in the form of independent hand washing, learning to dress, put shoes on etc. Social skills are taught and encouraged.
Here your child will build on the pre-reading, writing and maths skills they have been using in the other rooms. The emphasis is on learning through play and is mainly structured, with several “free play” sessions throughout the day. The children are split into groups with their keyworker for certain parts of the day, giving them more one on one attention. Morning and afternoon registration is taken, with the children learning to recognise their name on the board, learning the date, weather of the day and also give their “news” in front of the rest of the class. The above prepares your child for the transition to mainstream school.
Charlesworth has three outdoor play areas. At the front of the house, we have a small grassed area, specifically for the babies and crawlers. Toddlers have a paved area with lots of play equipment, and older toddlers and preschool have access to our rear garden. The garden has climbing equipment, slides and is a wonderful environment for your children to play in. Our staff encourage the children to play outside as much as the weather will permit, ensuring they get good exercise and also learning opportunities.
We welcome parents who would like to come and have a look around.
