At some point during their time in our Nursery School, children at Springfield move up into our Ready for School group. Usually it’s about 3 – 6 months before they are due to start ‘big’ school. We find that these children really do become ‘ready for school’. They want to be treated differently. They are the ‘big’ kids now in the nursery and love to be given some responsibilities to differentiate that difference.
At Springfield we’ve recognised that need and our children get very excited to move into the Ready for School group. They love helping staff setting the table for lunch, handing out drinks and work books. We encourage structured sessions as they will expect in school and working as part of a group.
We encourage their developments in number and word play and they will start to take a book home from our library. We also encourage visits into the local schools and we have drop in sessions from local teachers. We also continue to help grow their confidence and forming relationships with adults and other children. These are all valuable skills that will help them when they go to school.
Come in and see for yourself, you’ll be made very welcome.
